A Harlequins-affiliated club
With a Harlequins affiliation, future pathways opening up, and a welcoming environment for any player, Alresford Rugby Club is a friendly rugby club for everyone and anyone. Our focus is to build the basics and create a solid rugby foundation for players, whether their goal is to aim higher or to play good, hard rugby with their mates. Helping everyone in our club to understand the game, their role in it and how to excel as an individual is as crucial as it is to build team cohesion and relationships to develop winning teams.

Touch rugby
Touch rugby runs in the summer months for all ages, and is a popular favourite amongst new and existing favourites. Whilst this is currently being run in the summer only at the moment, we do have plans to run year-round games throughout the year in the future.
Senior’s rugby training sessions
When we train
Every Thursdays – 18:30 – 20:00/20:30
How we train
We run a weekly training session focusing on the basic principles of rugby. We believe that finessing the basics is fundamental to a quality training programme. We practice:
- Ball handling
- Tackling
- Position
- Communication
with a focus at the end of each session on pooling these basics together with a run-through of our game plan and playing style. Again we place a strong focus on making training inclusive for all player abilities to make it easier for player integration of any level.
Throughout training and games, we place a strong focus on rugby’s values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
We truly believe these are what make the game special for those who enjoy the environment and culture they create. They define the game and are fully embodied by Alresford RFC seniors, both on and off the pitch.
Who can join in
All abilities. Our club spans a wide range of player abilities, focussing on improving basic skills and solid game knowledge over fanciful moves and intricate gameplay. We are fortunate to have some talented players who have played leagues above our 1st team’s level and these players are a great source of knowledge and example for the rest of our player base. But if you’re new to the game, you may be pleased to know that we also have players brand new to the sport that we are currently coaching and developing. We welcome additional players with little to no experience to join throughout the year.
We’d hate for ability level to discourage anyone from getting involved in the Club and the game! Everyone is welcome.
Taster sessions
All training sessions are open to all and any 2nd team game is also free to newcomers so long as the team is aware prior.
How are the teams structured?
Currently, we have a fairly involved senior players group, who help with general management of the team. The general team structure includes a Captain, Vice Captain, and some senior players who assist the coach in delegating team responsibilities, selection, training and game day kit organisation.
The social side
We’re a friendly and sociable bunch. Throughout the season there are plenty of events and get-togethers to get involved in. Whether we’re watching World Cup matches after a Saturday game, running MOTM or DOTD awards or club social, we keep an active social atmosphere and events diary for our seniors and social members. You can also join the Club as a non-playing social member. You can find out more here.
