Alresford U13s Dominate Trojans to Reach Hampshire Semi-Final

20th January 2026

Alresford Lions U13s 4 (Tries) – Trojan U13s 2 (Tries) [18th January 2026]

Dominate!! Was the request from the coaches of Alresford U13’s team, Alresford Lions.

After a week of rain, Trojans pitches held up to host the quarter final of the Hampshire County Waterfall tournament. After a convincing win against Basingstoke in the last game, (6 tries scored in the first half to take the win) the U13’s were set to take on Trojans. Oliver Arscott stepped up to captain with Ellis Stuart as his co-Captain.

Alresford kicked off for the first half and shocked Trojans with a try in the first two minutes. Some lovely passing down the line to the Lions Full back, Ellis Stuart, who stepped the winger and sprinted down the line for the first try. The rest of the half was spent dominating the attacking platform but not able to get the ball over the line.

Second half started with Trojan’s kicking off. They seemed to have more of a measure in this half of how to slow down The Lion’s attack. They couldn’t quite read Angus Paine and his offload to Oscar Hake for an easy cut between two players for the second try, 2-0 to The Lions.

Not long after Angus Paine again got involved to run down the pitch, pushing off players and causing trouble, unfortunately not making the line but presenting the ball to a very switched on Dan Walls. He recognised an easy 1 on 1, who didn’t stand a chance against him and he slammed the ball over the line to make it 3-0 to The Lions.

Trojan’s started to use their stronger players to run through the defence and Lions had to work hard to defend their line multiple times. Try stopping tackles by Raffety Atlinson-Smith, Roscoe Chiltern and William Walford were fantastic but failed to stop the inevitable try going through. 3-1 to The Lions.

Unfortunately this was quickly followed by a second try for Trojans, who again used their strength to get through what was an organised defence from Alresford. 3-2 to The Lions, with 7 1/2 minutes left. Some fantastic technical rugby was played with a few well placed kicks for territory, from Daniel Martindale, and a lovely little grubber kick coming from Ellis Stuart who sprinted after it with Raffety Atkinson-Smith, unfortunately they didn’t manage to score.

Not long after, a beautiful pass from Zac Janmohamed to new signing Ashdon O’Brien, using his muscle and passion to get the ball over the line with Bear Scott-Healey close up behind for added strength if needed. 4-2 to The Lions, now they just needed to remain calm, keep the ball in the opposition’s half and see out the game. And thats what they did. A late injury on Reginald Williams meant that Alresford Lions played with 12 for the last 30 seconds of the game but it made no difference.

Lions won!!! Coaches, players and parents all happy. Coaches asked for domination, players delivered. Massive well done to Alresford Lions U13’s on the win!!!
