Lymington Edge Out Alresford 14-10 in Stormy Encounter

13th December 2024

Alresford 10 – Lymington 14

7th December 2024

Alresford welcomed Lymington to the Arlebury on a cold, grey, wet afternoon in which a ferocious wind would play a larger role than normal in the match.

Lymington kicked off the first half of what became an attritional match, with the conditions causing both teams severe problems.

The away team started the better and scored the first try after a period of forward pressure, with the resulting conversion making it 0-7 to Lymington.

But the home team buckled down, and kept plugging away, with their efforts being rewarded with a try just before the break. Although unconverted, the score at halftime was Alresford 5 – Lymington 7.

The home team kicked off the second half as the wind seemed to increase in power.

Neither team could find a firm base to build an attacking base, but a period of pressure halfway through the second half resulted in Lymington’s second converted try, increasing their lead to 5-14.

But again, back came Alresford with their second try, although unconverted, the score was now 10-14.

The home team could sense victory, as conditions worsened, but alas, it was not to be, with the referee blowing the final whistle to two exhausted teams.

The final score was;

Alresford 10 – Lymington 14.

With credit to both teams for a game played, in this writer’s opinion, the worst weather he has experienced pitch side, as ever, there was much to be proud of in the home teams performance, and knowledge that the areas that we can learn from, will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the season. We are a young team learning on the job, and can, and will, only get better with experience, both on match day and in training.

Our thanks to Lymington, we wish them a safe trip home, and we look forward to the return fixture later this season.

Our next fixture will be on 14th December when we travel to Alton.

As ever, thankyou to all those who came and supported the boys today, and we look forward to seeing you again in the upcoming matches.
